Custodian I (#1CMN3B)
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Custodian I for employment at both Chabot College in Hayward and Las Positas College in Livermore. This is an entry-level position involving a variety of light to heavy cleaning tasks performed independently in specific areas or as a member of a roving crew. Under general supervision, the employee performs tasks during the assigned shift to ensure cleanliness of assigned areas. The Custodian I is expected to work unusual hours. There is moderate consequence of error on the job. The position reports directly to the Director, Maintenance & Operations.
Assignment/Salary
The position is full-time, Monday – Thursday: 10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m., Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m., (shifts may vary), 12 mo/yr. Employment will begin on or about September 1, 2009. The salary is $3,487.33/mo. (Range 31, Funding: 100% District Funding).
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Completion of formal or informal education which assures ability to read, write and speak at the level sufficient for successful job performance and experience in building or related cleaning work or equivalent combination of education and experience which indicates possession of knowledge and skills required.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Knowledge of: Modern, effective and efficient methods used in general housekeeping work; cleaning materials, disinfectants, standard equipment and tools used in custodial work; window cleaning techniques and methods; safety methods and procedures in housekeeping operations.
Skills in: Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment and tools; performing tasks requiring relatively high degree of physical strength and endurance; applying methods and practices used in custodial work and the care of tools, equipment and facilities; following oral and written instructions; establishing and maintaining cooperative, effective interpersonal relationships; working independently with minimum supervision, and ability to safeguard keys and maintain security of facilities.
License
Possession of a valid class C (auto and light truck) California driver's license.
Duties and Responsibilities

Sweeps, scrubs and mops floors in rooms, halls, stairways and public areas;

Empties and cleans pencil sharpeners and waste receptacles; cleans and fills dispensers in restrooms; cleans windows, walls, doors and floors; empties and changes trash bags in containers;

Cleans chalkboards and trays, furniture, desks, woodwork, fixtures etc.;

Sets up rooms, moves and arranges furniture;

Cleans and washes sink, shower stalls, and other rest room and shower room plumbing fixtures;

Works in both an indoor and outdoor environment, and is subject to frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling;

Strips, vacuums, waxes floors; shampoos carpets;

Locks and unlocks doors to buildings; reports malfunctions and unusual occurrences observed;

Maintains equipment and tools used;

Works off ladders, scaffolding or other equipment with heights exceeding 16 feet; changes light bulbs, and tubes; cleans fixtures;

Drives truck in delivering or picking up supplies or equipment;

Orders custodial supplies; and
-
Performs other tasks as assigned.
