Medical-Surgical Nursing Instructor (#2FHS18)
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Medical-Surgical Nursing Instructor for Chabot College in Hayward, CA. The position reports directly to the Division Dean.
Salary
The salary range is $56,202 - $80,348/yr, depending on education and experience.
Assignment
This is a full-time position, first year contract, 2009 – 2010 Academic Year. The assignment will begin on or about August 10, 2009.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, which includes courses in nursing, education or administration;

Completion of at least one year’s experience teaching courses related to nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing;

At least one year’s experience as registered nurse providing direct patient care; or
-
*Equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the board.
License: A current valid license to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of California.
Appointment to this position is contingent upon approval by the California State Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Desirable Qualifications

Previous Community College teaching experience;

Experience teaching undergraduate courses related to nursing, including classroom lectures;

Knowledge of major theoretical frameworks with preference to having experience and/or familiarity with the application of the Roy Adaptation Model.
Particular Job Characteristics

Provides instruction in accordance with established Chabot College approved curriculum and course outlines;

Informs students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements;

Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submits them according to published guidelines;

Participates in campus/college governance by serving on campus/college committees;

Participates in professional development, student and other educational activities in accordance with college policy;

Effectively teaches and communicates with students of diverse backgrounds;

Develops, maintains, and evaluates curriculum;

Maintains currency in the field;

Interacts with faculty and staff in areas of instruction and participates in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials;

Prepares and grades class assignments and evaluations;

Posts and maintains adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;

Works with peers in higher education, business, and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs;

Maintains currency in the field and follows the faculty mandates of the California Board of Registered Nursing;

Demonstrates respect for the rights and needs of students;

Demonstrates respect for staff, colleagues, and the teaching profession;

Ability to work in the clinical setting four days per week, days and/or evenings;

Ability to work the required full-time schedule consisting of 15 lecture hours of student contact time. Office hours are also required;

Communicates effectively in English, both in written and oral form.
