ANNOUNCEMENTS AND TIMELINES

LAS POSITAS COLLEGE PRESIDENT PROFILE

The Board of Trustees of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District seeks a President who will provide strong administrative, fiscal and educational leadership with a high degree of credibility, intelligence, energy and creativity.

LAS POSITAS COLLEGE

Las Positas College is located in Livermore on a historic 147-acre land grant once known as Arroyo de Las Positas. The college serves the Tri-Valley region of the San Francisco/Oakland East Bay. This includes the cities of Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton and Sunol as well as surrounding unincorporated areas. Because of its quality, the college also draws from a broad range of surrounding areas of Northern California.

Known for its economic and educational diversity, the Tri-Valley houses two nationally known research centers: the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory. Las Positas College students work as summer interns in these national laboratories under the guidance of world-renowned engineers and physicists. The College has a high transfer rate and enjoys an excellent working relationship with business, industry and civic leaders, which also provide unique funding and other opportunities for the college’s students.

Known for its ability to adopt its curriculum, not only to the needs of transfer students, but also to the needs of local employers, Las Positas College has developed support and instructional partnerships ranging from large to small. These include Safeway Inc., for which the college created a retail management program to start-up firms for which it provides creative services through its student-run “Design Shop”.

Most recently, the staff worked with several local wineries to develop and implement a Viticulture and Winery Technology Program. The Tri-Valley supports 53 local wineries and is growing its reputation as an exciting wine region of California.

The college received full accreditation in 1991. Since 2004, it has seen an exciting expansion of its facilities. Recent additions to the campus include a Student Services and Administration Building, a Multi-Disciplinary Building; Gymnasium; a Two-Theater Performing Arts Center; Early Childhood Development Center and expansion of the existing Science Complex.

A new District-Wide IT complex on the Las Positas College campus joins existing facilities that include a Science Center; Learning Resource Center; Horticulture Laboratory; Automotive Technology Center; and several state-of-the-art laboratories.

The College’s 8,500 students reflect the diversity of the greater Tri-Valley Area: 1% Native American; 1% Pacific Islander; 3% Unknown; 4% Filipino; 4% African American; 7% Multiracial; 11% Asian; 24% Hispanic; and 45% Caucasian.
