The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is governed by a seven-member board of trustees which is responsible for all policy decisions. Board members are elected from trustee areas by the registered voters of nine communities: Castro Valley, Dublin, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Sunol and Union City.

Board Meeting Information

The Board of Trustees hold business meetings once a month on the third Tuesday, unless otherwise noted in the meeting schedule. Workshops and additional meetings are scheduled as needed. Meetings are open to the public and are held at one of the following locations: District Office, 7600 Dublin Blvd., 3rd Floor, Dublin; Chabot College, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward; Las Positas College, 3000 Campus Hill Drive, Livermore.

Dr. Mitzman has served on the Board since 2008 and currently represents Area 1, City of Hayward.

Dr. Mitzman received his bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University (San Jose, CA); and masters and doctoral degrees from Judge College, Cambridge University (Cambridge, England). He’s also very proud to have attended two local community colleges, Foothill and De Anza community colleges (Los Altos Hills and Cupertino respectively, CA), for his Associate in Arts degrees. 

Dr. Mitzman is an active member in the Hayward business and non-profit community.  With private sector experience in business and sales in companies such as Bank of America, Memorex Corporation, Nestle Corporation, and Avis Rent a Car, he currently owns and runs his own business.  Additionally, he’s an adjunct instructor for both local community colleges, UC Berkeley’s Hass School of Business, and holds a lifetime California Community College teaching credential. 

Dr. Mitzman community leadership involves many board memberships, and key board roles, in organizations such as Alameda County School Boards Association, Alameda County Salvation Army, Hayward Education Foundation, Friends of Chabot College Foundation, Hayward Chamber of Commerce and much more. 

Dr. Mitzman is married to Felie Ulep; celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2018 they have two children and seven grandchildren.

Dr. Gin has served on the Board since 2005, and represents Area 6, Hayward and San Leandro. He has served as Board President for three terms.

Dr. Gin earned a doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco, a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in sociology and social services from California State University East Bay (Hayward, CA).

Dr. Gin has dedicated more than three decades as an educator and student affairs administrator at California State University East Bay. 

Dr. Gin is involved in leadership positions on various community organizations including the Lions Club, Asian Business Alliance, Past Presiding President of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, Friends of Chabot College Foundation, Alameda County Board of Zoning Adjustments, and as Commissioner on the Alameda County Planning Commission.

Dr. Gin is married to Rose; they have two children and two grandchildren.

 

Mr. Donald L. "Dobie" Gelles

Mr. Gelles “Dobie” has served on the Board since 1998, and represents Area 4, Castro Valley and Oakland. He has served as Board President for two terms.

Mr. Gelles earned his Bachelor of Arts in science and math from the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), and his Masters in counseling from California State University Hayward (Hayward, CA).

Mr. Gelles served three years in the military and eight years as a reservist. He’s a retired K-12 administrator, and was Director for Castro Valley Adult School, a division of Castro Valley Unified School District.

Mr. Gelles has served on many local boards such as the Eden Hospital Community Board, Castro Valley Unified School District, and has served as President for the Kiwanis Club and Rotary.

Mr. Gelles is a widow, with two children and two grandchildren.

With 25 years in education, Linda Granger is currently the superintendent of Eden Area Regional Occupational Program.  As superintendent, she is responsible for the implementation of Career Technical Education Programs in 11 industry sectors supporting 4,800 high school students in career exploration and skill attainment. 

She is a graduate of San Leandro High School and spent the bulk of her career at that high school.  Her career in education began as a business and marketing teacher in one of the first California Partnership Academies in the state. While teaching in the academy, she was able to partner with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to bring its entrepreneurship program to the academy students.

After eight years in the classroom, she became the assessment coordinator for San Leandro Unified School District and then moved up the administrative ranks to associate principal and principal at San Leandro High School prior to taking her current position at Eden Area ROP.  

She is a passionate believer in the role that Career Technical Education plays in enabling students to be successful in high school in beyond. She has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students as they navigate high school, college and career, and she likewise understands that the impact of trauma, implicit bias, poverty and health issues must be dealt with if students are to succeed.  Identifying career interests and the education and training beyond high school needed to reach their career goals are essential students becoming productive members of society. 

 

Mr. Edralin J. Maduli

Mr. “Ed” Maduli has served on the Board since 2016, and represents Area 7, Livermore and portions of Pleasanton.

Mr. Maduli is a graduate of the military’s Armed Forces Staff College and the Air Command and Staff College. He has received numerous awards and decorations from the United States Air Force. He received his Associates in Arts degree from Hartnell College (Salinas, CA); Bachelor in Science in aeronautical engineering from California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo, CA); Masters in Science in aeronautical engineering from the University of Oklahoma; and a Masters in Business Administrator from Golden Gate University (San Francisco, CA).  He is working towards his Education Doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA). 

Mr. Maduli served in the USAF for over 20 years, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Overseas assignments included Thailand, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. Notably, he supported the operational development of the F-117 Stealth Fighter. Mr. Maduli concurrently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services for the West Valley Mission Community College District (Santa Clara, CA). Previous positions have included the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Administrative Services for the San Luis Obispo County Community College District (Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo, CA) and as their Interim Superintendent/President; Director of Fiscal and Administrative Operations and subsequently as the Vice President of Business Services for Las Positas College (Livermore, CA).

Mrs. Randolph has served on the Board since 2017, and represents Area 3, Union City and South Hayward.

Mrs. Randolph earned her masters in education leadership from the University of San Francisco (San Francisco, CA). She earned her Bachelor in Science in business management from Marymount Manhattan College (New York, NY).

Mrs. Randolph is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Administrative Services for the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District. Her service to students includes general and special education teacher at the elementary and middle school grades, principal at elementary schools and District Administrator supporting parents, staff, and students.

Mrs. Randolph has been an active member of the East Bay and education communities through membership in various service organizations. She also serves as an advisor and judge for elementary through high school STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) competitions. She has an interest and passion for bridging K-12 and the community colleges and understands the role community colleges play within the higher education system in California. 

Mrs. Randolph is married to Royce Johnson; they have two children and six grandchildren.

 

Mr. Carlo Vecchiarelli

Mr. Vecchiarelli has severed on the Board since 2004, and represents Area 5, Pleasanton and Dublin. He has served as Board President three terms.

Mr. Vecchiarelli attended Bishop O’Dowd High School, California State University Hayward (Hayward, CA), and University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA).  He earned degrees and credentials in biological sciences and education.

Mr. Vecchiarelli joined the Chabot College faculty in 1968 where he taught life sciences and authored three books. From 1975-1998 he served as Dean of Admissions for Chabot College.  He also served as Dean for the Math and Computer Science Department. 

Mr. Vecchiarelli has served on the Board of Regents for Bishop O’Dowd High, several accreditation teams, and was inducted into the Chabot Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of meritorious services to student athletes.

Mr. Vecchiarelli is married to Geri; they have two children and five grandchildren.

 

Ms. Juliet Garcia

Ms. Garcia has served as a student trustee since 2017. She is a student at Chabot College. She lives Hayward, CA, but until her senior year in high school, she grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico. 

Ms. Garcia’s educational goals are to transfer to UC Berkeley or CSU East Bay and graduate with her bachelors in Political Science as well as pursue her J.D. and a Masters Degree in higher education.

Her extracurricular activities include: President of LUNA (Latinas United in Academics) at Chabot College. Active in Puente, Chabot's Food Pantry and Change It Now Program. Her goal is to help guide international efforts for different humanitarian causes around the world, as well as to become a lawyer and advocate for immigrant rights and her local community.

Mr. Garrett Culberston

Mr. Culbertson has served as a student trustee since April 2018. He is a student as Las Positas College. He grew up in the Bay Area, in the City of San Ramon.

Mr. Culbertson’s educational goals are to transfer to either UC Berkeley or UC Davis to continue his studies in molecular biology. His extracurricular activities include volunteering with the Living Arroyos program to help revitalize a creek bed in Livermore and he’s currently active in LPC’s student government working as an advocate for student rights.
