Programming/Applications
The District ITS analysts are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of our main Enterprise level system, the Banner Sungard System. The Computer Operations Group works closely with the Systems & Programming Group to run the nightly production jobs associated with Banner as well as user ad hoc requests. This Enterprise product consists of Banner modules for the following disciplines:
Sungard Higher Education Banner Modules:
- Student
- Finance
- Financial Aid
- Human Resources
- Payroll
- Accounts Receivable
The Banner System resides on an IBM P670 AIX server with supplemental AIX Web servers that are used for the CLASS-WEB application. The Web server provides Self Service features within Banner for each of these user groups: Student, Faculty, Employee, and Finance.
The Banner Enterprise System has been used by CLPCCD since the early 1990’s; therefore, there are district specific customizations that have been made to the baseline Banner System over the years to satisfy the college needs. The Banner System and any other third party products supplementing the Banner System use the Oracle database, with the current release at 10G.
The Banner CLASS-WEB can be accessed via the CLPCCD Luminis Web Portal “The ZONE’ The Zone or directly via CLASS-Web Log-in.
Besides the primary Banner Enterprise System, the ITS Staff are accountable for other third party application products that automatically interface with Banner. Some of the more significant third party products that CLPCCD is utilizing include:
- Degree Works for Student Degree Audits and Student Education Plans
- College Net for Room Scheduling and Room Inventories
- Crystal WEBI Ad hoc Reporting Tool
- BossCars Parking Permit System
- CCCApply for online Student Application Submission for Colleges
- FACTS for Student Installment Payment Plans
- Official Payments for Student Credit Card payments
- Higher One for Student Debit Card used for Financial Aid
In addition to these third party systems, the District ITS staff have developed automatic interfaces with the Enterpise Banner System to send data to and from Banner, whichever is appropriate depending on the system, to other vendor products supported by the local College Computer Support staffs. Some of these types of application systems include SARS-TRAK and STARS and PC-TRAK for positive attendance tracking of students, SARS-GRID and SARS-CALL and eSARS for tracking Counseling support for the students, and Elumens Student Learning Outcomes.
The ITS Systems & Programming staff serve dual roles in supporting both the new development projects as well as to provide operational support for the existing systems. Programmer and Administrative Analysts that support the district-wide applications provide the following services to the colleges and district personnel:
- Define user requirements and perform system analysis for new application development
- Installation of new system hardware and software for applications
- Perform programming tasks and unit testing for applications
- Coordinate with user groups for full system testing and acceptance criteria
- Complete documentation for new system implementations
- Provide user training for applications systems
- Resolve problems on the production systems as needed
