FAQ's
What is a portal?
A web portal provides the following benefits to a web site:
- Categorizes information so that it is tailored to each user based on his or her role and affiliations, similar to what you have seen on Yahoo, Google, and AOL.
- Offers different layouts for information and services to students, faculty, staff, and administrators with additional features to customize these web pages where appropriate.
- Includes student email, calendar, announcements, discussion groups, customized views of Banner and CLASS-WEB, other college applications, and much more.
- Provides access to a variety of services with a single sign-on point so that means no more multiple logon IDs and passwords for the different web systems on campus. Now you will only have one logon to remember.
Will we still have college and district websites?
Yes, the three public websites are critical to our institutions and will most definitely continue to exist. Some of the information now housed on the public website will move to the portal thereby increase space on the public website for more externally focused content.
Can my student email be forwarded to my personal email?
Yes, you may forward your student email to your personal email account. However, your original email messages will always remain in your student email account.
How will I learn how to operate the portal?
Several training opportunities will be made available to you. Based on feedback from focus groups, the Web Portal Core Team will develop training modules and methods for faculty, staff and students. And, as always, the Help Desk team will be standing by to assist you with any difficulties you may encounter.
